Introduction to FractionsA fraction represents a part of a whole. It consists of a numerator (the top number) and a denominator (the bottom number). For example, in 1/2, 1 is the numerator and 2 is the denominator.Types of FractionsProper Fractions: The numerator is smaller than the denominator (e.g., 3/4).Improper Fractions: The numerator is larger than or equal to the denominator (e.g., 5/3).Mixed Numbers: A whole number combined with a proper fraction (e.g., 1 1/2).Fractions can be converted to decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator. What is a Noun?A noun is a naming word. It names a person, place, animal, thing, or idea. Examples include: Tunde, Lagos, Dog, Table, and Happiness.Types of NounsProper Nouns: Particular names of people, places, days of the week, or months. Proper nouns always start with capital letters (e.g., Nigeria, Monday, June).Common Nouns: General names given to similar classes of things (e.g., boy, city, school).Abstract Nouns: Things we cannot see, touch, or hear, but can feel or think of (e.g., love, courage, anger).What is a Pronoun?A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun to avoid unnecessary repetition. For example, instead of saying: "Tunde is a boy. Tunde is ten years old. Tunde goes to school." We say: "Tunde is a boy. He is ten years old. He goes to school." Here, "He" is a pronoun.

What is a Semiconductor?A semiconductor is a material that has electrical conductivity between that of a conductor (such as copper) and an insulator (such as glass). Its resistance decreases as the temperature rises, which is the opposite behavior of metals.Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic SemiconductorsAn intrinsic semiconductor is a pure semiconductor without any significant dopant species present. Silicon and Germanium are common examples. An extrinsic semiconductor has been doped with impurities to change its electrical properties.N-Type and P-Type DopingDoping introduces small amounts of foreign atoms. In N-type doping, pentavalent impurities (like Phosphorus) are added, creating extra free electrons.
